Dear JPII families,

On this cold and sunny Sunday, I hope everyone is enjoying a restful afternoon with family. Last week at JPII we enjoyed Mass with Fr. Nick Cottrill and we also learned about the importance of being intentional in our thoughts and actions with Jay Graves. It was a great way to end the week! Looking ahead to this week, our athletic teams will be playing away and at home. Please come out and support our Saints! Athletic events are a great way to meet other families and supporters of JPII.

In closing, this week is the final push for our school-wide fundraiser, Bracket Mania. The money raised will support our academic and athletic needs. Please reach out to your family and friends and also share via social media. Our goal is for every student to sell 10 brackets before this Wednesday.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO PLAY BRACKET MANIA!

Bracket Mania is our spring school-wide fundraiser and your picks could be worth $250-$1,000 - but only if you play! Here’s how it works:

Since brackets are filled out online, anyone anywhere can participate so share this opportunity with family and friends near and far!
Brackets are $20 each – buy 1 or buy more than 1 – you can enter as many times as you’d like.
Reserve your bracket(s) now by paying with a credit card using the form on this page or Venmo @JPIICatholic with the note “Bracket Mania” and your email address.
Shortly after the teams are announced TONIGHT at 6:00 p.m. ET, those who have purchased brackets will receive a link and password to fill out their bracket(s).
All brackets must be completed by 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 17th!
Points are awarded for each winning pick; point values increase as the tournament progresses.
The top 10 point leaders in each of the first 5 rounds will be placed in a raffle drawing to win a cash prize.
After the final game, all individuals with the highest point totals and the winning team selected will be placed in a raffle to win the grand prize.

The deadline to purchase brackets is this Wednesday, March 16 at 5:00 p.m. ET

NHS INDUCTION CEREMONY

Students who have been invited to join the JPII Chapter of the National Honor Society were sent email notifications on Thursday. The induction ceremony will take place on Wednesday, March 30 at 9:00 a.m. in the PAC. Parents of newly-inducted students are invited to attend.

DIGITAL TICKETING ONLY STARTING MARCH 21

Starting Monday, March 21, we will no longer accept cash or Venmo at the gate; only digital tickets will be accepted for home sporting events. Tickets can be purchased online or by downloading the HomeTown Fan app in the Google Play store or Apple App store.

YOU CAN NOW PAINT THE ROCK!

Our spirit rock is a great way to celebrate birthdays, show your school spirit, or congratulate students for their accomplishments! Reservations are on a first-come, first-serve basis and must be paid for at the time of reservation. The weekly fee is $25 and all money raised from the spirit rock will be used to fund general academic needs. DUE TUESDAY: APPLICATIONS FOR TAR HEEL STATE

The Greenville American Legion Post 39 is seeking high school juniors who would like to attend the prestigious Tar Heel Boys or Girls State program. The post will sponsor and pay the tuition fee for selected delegates to attend the week-long camp at Catawba College. The girls’ dates are June 12-18 and the boys will attend June 19-25. The program is designed to give delegates hands-on experience in forming and running all levels of NC state government while developing leadership and communicative skills. Become an informed citizen and stand out among your peers! Applicants must be a rising senior, 16-18 years old, have a 3.0 unweighted GPA or equivalent, and be a resident of the state for at least one year. It is already time to start thinking about classes for next school year! Ms. Blanton will be meeting with students individually during the month of March. If parents are interested in attending meetings, please email her to schedule an appointment. She is reserving Wednesdays and will have time slots available from 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

TRIP INFORMATION

Spend an afternoon on the golf course while supporting our school! The inaugural JPII Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo!) at Greenville Country Club with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. NEXT DRIVER'S ED CLASS IS IN MAY

Students who need to take driver's ed and will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, May 9 are eligible to participate in a class that will be held at the school May 9-13 and 16-20 from 3:15-6:15 p.m. each day. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. The CFNC Spanish Services team will be providing a statewide webinar this Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. for Spanish-speaking students and their parents on Scholarships for Hispanic Students in NC.

COMING NEXT WEEK...

Would you consider hosting a teen from Northern Ireland for 3 weeks this summer?

It is easier than you may think!

The Ulster Project pairs your teen with a teen from Northern Ireland from June 27-July 18. The teens (hosting and visiting) have a schedule of fun activities, service projects, church services, trips, and times of discovery that will keep them busy. Local counselors and counselors from Northern Ireland will be supervising the kids during all scheduled activities.

What do we ask of you and your family?

Provide a loving home with either a private room or a shared bedroom with your teen
Drop your teens off and pick them up from activities (participating families help each other out; if there are any schedule conflicts during those 3 weeks, that can usually be worked out)

For the 2nd consecutive year, UNC Assistant Basketball Coach Jeff Lebo and his son Creighton will host a basketball camp at the JPII Athletic Center for boys and girls ages 5-14.
