Ash Wednesday is this week - we invite you to celebrate Mass and the distribution of ashes with us at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

It is almost time to start re-enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year! Families will receive information in mid-February about how to re-enroll their student(s) in Finalsite. For now, families should:

1) Submit an Opportunity Scholarship during February (information below)

2) Families who receive need-based financial aid from the school will need to complete an Opportunity Scholarship application and a FACTS Grant & Aid application to be eligible to continue receiving financial aid.

SUBMIT YOUR OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION BY THE END OF THE MONTH

The Opportunity Scholarship Program is offered by the State of North Carolina and provides up to $7,213 per year toward tuition and fees for students who choose to attend a participating nonpublic school such as JPII. Families must apply by March 1 to receive priority consideration.

NEED HELP SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION? Families who need help submitting an Opportunity Scholarship application can receive assistance by appointment by contacting Business Manager Mary Ershadi.

In addition to the NC Opportunity Scholarship, Folds of Honor is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides educational scholarships of up to $5,000 up to $5,000 per academic year to the spouses and children of military members or first responders who have fallen or been disabled. The application is now open and closes March 31, 2024.

CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to the varsity girls basketball team on their 48-30 win over Wayne Christian Friday night to add the conference tournament championship to their regular season championship - both firsts in school history! Freshman Aaliyah Hinnant was named Tournament MVP and sophomore Ke’ziya Clemmons and junior Ari Atkinson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Varsity Girls Basketball finished #5 in the NCISAA 3A state rankings and will host Thales Academy-Rolesville on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.

Eight swimmers qualified to compete in this year's NCISAA State Championships - the most ever for the program. Congratulations and good luck to these swimmers:

Auditions for the spring play (The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales) will be held THIS Friday, February 16th (half day of school) from 12-1pm in the PAC. Please come prepared with a memorized monologue. See Ms. Goodman with any questions!

Sales for Valentine's Day Candygrams will close at the end of today! They are 1 for $3 or 4 for $10 and will be delivered on Wednesday during lunch.

MS. THOMSEN'S WEEKLY STUDY TIPS

Study Tip #19: “Transferable Skills: Professionalism Email Etiquette” This week’s transferable skills episode is on email etiquette. Good, professional emailing manners will transfer to your future college classes and workplace. Email writing is an important skill with so much of our lives online because we don’t often see someone in person or can speak to them on the phone. We want to present ourselves as wonderfully through our emails as we do in person by following these five simple steps.

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf. If you missed a week, a playlist is available at the top of the “Classwork” page so you can watch all of the videos. Also, I am at JPII every afternoon: 6th period in S105 and 7th period in S104, and 2:30-3:30 in S104, so stop by!

TAR HEEL STATE APPLICATIONS DUE FEBRUARY 21

Juniors interested in Tar Heel Boys and Girls State: applications are now available and due by February 21, 2024. This is a great opportunity for a week-long residential experience in forming and running all levels of city and state government. Please see Ms. Blanton with any questions.

MULCH MADNESS RETURNS!

Bags are 2 cubic feet of mulch (each bag covers 10-12 square feet 2 inches deep) in four colors that are $5 each. Orders will be accepted until Tuesday, March 19 and pickup will be Saturday, March 23. Orders of 25 or more bags can be delivered for free to addresses within 5 miles of the school. Don't need mulch? Consider purchasing bags and donating them to the school.

Join Haven at Blue Creek on Saturday, April 20 for the inaugural 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, Walk, and Ruck on their stunning grounds in Grimesland. The First Step 5k is organized to support Haven at Blue Creek, a Women's Rehabilitation Center committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for women overcoming addiction. Join us for post-race refreshments, entertainment including bouncy houses for children, and a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere.

Awaken Coffee is looking for volunteers for their 6th Annual Yard Sale at Unity Church March 8th & 9th. Volunteer hours count towards JPII Works of Mercy.

With all the sickness that has been going around recently, our supply of tissue boxes has been depleted! If you'd like to make a donation of tissues to the school, please drop them off at the main office. Thank you in advance!

Mrs. Muñoz is looking for book donations to fill her classroom library! She would love to stock the shelves with young adult literature for our students to borrow and read. If you would like to donate your used books, drop them off in room S105.

My Hot Lunchbox now has mobile apps for both Android & iOS.

If you have spare grocery store plastic bags, we are collecting them for Catholic Charities. Students can turn them into the main office.
