RE-ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR STARTS MONDAY! All families were sent re-enrollment information via email on Saturday evening. Enrollment contracts will be sent via email this week. Make sure you do not have an outstanding balance on your student's current tuition account. Parents will not be able to re-enroll their student(s) for the 2024-2025 school year if there is an outstanding balance on the current tuition account.

Michael Morgan, our facilities coordinator, life skills teacher, and beloved member of the Saints family, is currently undergoing cancer treatment. To support him and his family, we've added the #MorganStrong T-shirt to The Saints Shop. Shirts are $15 each and students can wear them as part of the dress code. All proceeds will go to the Morgan family to help with his treatment and recovery.

MS. THOMSEN'S WEEKLY STUDY TIPS

Study Tip #22: “Transferable Skills: Gaming the Reading ACT” Using transferable skills like street smarts or gaming can help you academically. In this video, I will show you how I use my gaming skills to move faster through the reading sections of the ACT. By not reading the whole passage, I can dive into the questions faster and with confidence. You’ll watch me take the test to see how I “game” it. That means reading with a purpose, using elimination to find the best answers, and searching for answers with keywords. Most importantly, make sure you practice this strategy, so you don’t freak out on test day. Like the cat says, “Keep in your box," so you get the scores you want. After you have your scores, jump out of the box.

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf. If you missed a week, a playlist is available at the top of the “Classwork” page so you can watch all of the videos. Also, I am at JPII every afternoon: 6th period in S105 and 7th period in S104, and 2:30-3:30 in S104, so stop by!

TESTING ON WEDNESDAY

9th graders will take the PreACT 8/9 in the PAC and 10th graders will take the PreACT in south hall classrooms. Students will need to bring their calculators to school to use for testing.

Students interested in healthcare careers will have the opportunity to "Chat with a Doc" on Thursday, March 14 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the ECU Health Medical Center Main Auditorium. Students who would like to participate must provide their own transportation to the event and register with Ms. Blanton before Feb. 28th. This is an excused afternoon absence but students will be responsible for any missed work.

MULCH MADNESS!

The deadline to order mulch is 2 weeks from Tuesday! Bags are 2 cubic feet of mulch (each bag covers 10-12 square feet 2 inches deep) in four colors that are $5 each. Orders will be accepted until Tuesday, March 19 and pickup will be Saturday, March 23. Orders of 25 or more bags can be delivered for free to addresses within 5 miles of the school. Don't need mulch? Consider purchasing bags and donating them to the school.

The next round of pottery classes for adults starts on April 10 with Mrs. K. Classes are held on Wednesdays through May 15 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. All glazes and firings are included. Limited to the first 11 people who register.

Join Haven at Blue Creek on Saturday, April 20 for the inaugural 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, Walk, and Ruck on their stunning grounds in Grimesland. The First Step 5k is organized to support Haven at Blue Creek, a Women's Rehabilitation Center committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for women overcoming addiction. Join us for post-race refreshments, entertainment including bouncy houses for children, and a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere.

Families can also support Haven at Blue Creek during the month of March at Great Harvest Bread Co. As the "Non-Profit of the Month," Haven will receive a percentage of sales of carrot cake that will be made daily at the bakery.

Bracket Mania is our spring school-wide fundraiser and your picks could be worth $250-$1,000 - but only if you play! Filling out a bracket for the college basketball tournament is an annual American tradition. There’s nothing like picking a winner and whether you pick teams by stats, colors, mascots, or you just don’t like the other team – don't miss your opportunity to win $250-$1,000 while supporting the academic and athletic needs of JPII students! Here’s how it works:

Since brackets are filled out online, anyone anywhere can participate so share this opportunity with family and friends near and far!
Brackets are $20 each – buy 1 or buy more than 1 – you can enter as many times as you’d like.
Reserve your bracket(s) now by paying with a credit card using the form linked below or Venmo @JPIICatholic with the note “Bracket Mania” and your email address.
Shortly after the teams are announced on Sunday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m. ET, those who have purchased brackets will receive a link and password to fill out their bracket(s).
All brackets must be completed by 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 21st!
Points are awarded for each winning pick; point values increase as the tournament progresses.
The top 10 point leaders in each of the first 5 rounds will be placed in a raffle drawing to win a cash prize.
After the final game, all individuals with the highest point totals and the winning team selected will be placed in a raffle to win the grand prize.

All money raised will go toward the academic and athletic needs of JPII students!

DRIVER'S ED

Students who will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, April 22 and need to take driver's ed are eligible to participate in the class that will be held at the school April 22-May 3 (except those students going on the DC Trip). The class will be held Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45 p.m. with the exception of April 26 and May 1. There is no class on April 26 and class will be held 12:00 noon-6:00 p.m. on May 1. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. Students interested in cheerleading for the 2024-2025 school year are encouraged to participate in summer workouts scheduled for June 4–6 and June 10, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at noon. Tryouts will be held June 12th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. If you're interested in participating in cheer for the 2024–2025 school year, please email Coach Holley.

Awaken Coffee is looking for volunteers for their 6th Annual Yard Sale at Unity Church March 8th & 9th. Volunteer hours count towards JPII Works of Mercy.

If you have spare grocery store plastic bags, we are collecting them for Catholic Charities. Students can turn them into the main office.

The Ulster Project of Greenville is looking for families with teens ages 14-16 to host a northern Irish teen for 3 weeks this summer from June 26th to July 18th. Both teens, visiting and hosting, will have a schedule of fun activities, service projects, day trips, a 3-night trip to Washington D.C., attending church services, time of discoveries, and more. Visiting teens can share a bedroom with the host teen. Most days will be dropping off in the morning and picking up in the evening. Help with drop off and pick up is available. The project is free of charge and provides service hours. Families can express interest via email or by calling Silvia Frizzelle at 252-258-5963.

Applications for the Ronald McDonald House Teen Ambassador Program are due May 1. The Teen Ambassador Program is comprised of a select group of high school students chosen based on academic merit and commitment to volunteering. Ambassadors gain a greater understanding of several aspects of a nonprofit organization and shows them the importance of giving back to the community. Teens commit to a service year from September – May and meet at least once a month at RMHC of Eastern NC.

Coach Jeff Lebo’s 15th Annual Summer Basketball Camp in Greenville is set for June 24-27 and July 22-25 for boys and girls ages 5-13. PCC offers summer camps for students ages 6 year old to rising 12^th graders, some of which are great opportunities for career exploration in a very hands on way.
