MARY CATHERINE CHRISTOPHER Director of Academic Support and Assistant Athletic Director for Women's Sports The JPII community will welcome Mary Catherine Christopher to campus on July 1, 2021 to serve in two new positions at the school: director of academic support and assistant athletic director for women’s sports. She has more than 20 years of teaching experience with 15 of those in Catholic education. Christopher is currently the middle school division director at Saint Peter Catholic School and teaches English. At JPII, she looks forward to new challenges and, as director of academic support, employing a philosophy her first principal taught her: “I don’t care how you get from Point A to Point B, let’s just end up there together.”
Christopher loves working with students, seeing them succeed and grow, and helping them reach that “ah ha!” moment. “I knew when I was in 1st grade that I wanted to be a teacher,” she said. “I never thought about anything else. The teachers I had growing up made such an impact on me that I wanted to be that same force in other students' lives.” Christopher has done just that while teaching middle school math, science, and social studies as well as Pre-K, 3rd, and 4th grades. Her greatest reward has been forming relationships with her students that have lasted beyond the classroom.
Christopher holds a bachelor of science in elementary education from East Carolina University. In her free time she enjoys time with her husband Chris and their family at the beach and river, shopping with her daughter Caroline who attends ECU, and watching her son Hunter play baseball for Winthrop University. |

SHAWN MOORE Head Coach for Women's Basketball Greenville native Shawn Moore will be the new head coach of the Lady Saints basketball team starting with the 2021-2022 school year. Moore comes to JPII after three years at D.H. Conley where he was 65-9, recently named conference Coach of the Year, and won two consecutive conference titles by going undefeated in conference play those seasons. In July 2020, he was named The Daily Reflector All-Area Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year. Prior to Conley, he built a varsity women’s team at The Oakwood School that went 134-24, capturing seven consecutive conference championships and two varsity women’s state runner-up titles. Moore was recognized as Coach of the Year every year from 2009-2016.
Moore played for J.H. Rose High School and Hargrave Military Academy before playing collegiately for Marshall University. Upon graduating from Marshall with a degree in criminal justice, he spent the next several years playing basketball overseas in the semi-pro leagues.
The enthusiasm and love for basketball pours out of Moore every time he enters a gym. “I invest heavily into developing each of my players and impact the kids that others struggle to reach,” he said. His primary coaching objective has always been to provide a solid foundation of basketball fundamentals and build life skills for each player, with a focus on developing a strong work ethic, drive, and determination, and sense of accountability to ensure growth of the individual, both on and off the court. |
