The application for National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Math Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta), and National Science Honor Society is open now through Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. Students interested in applying can find eligibility information and the link to the online application form at the button below. Students who have questions about their GPA should see Ms. Blanton. Honor society inductions will be held Thursday, January 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the PAC.

The Opportunity Scholarship Program is offered by the State of North Carolina and provides up to $7,213 per year toward tuition and fees for students who choose to attend a participating nonpublic school such as JPII.

Families are encouraged to create a NCSEAA MyPortal accountnow in preparation for submitting an Opportunity Scholarship application during the month of February. Families must apply by March 1 to receive priority consideration.

Our school is listed as “John Paul II Catholic H. S.” with the NCSEAA.

MS. THOMSEN'S WEEKLY STUDY TIPS

Study Tip #16: “ACT English Test Taking Tips for Juniors!" This tip is especially for our juniors who are preparing to take the ACT this spring. These tips are guardrails to keep you focused on where the points are in the English section, so you improve your score without exhausting your brain. Since the English part is the first section, you want to feel good about it so you go into the Math section feeling strong. Next week, we’ll talk about tips on gathering more points on the Reading section.

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf. If you missed a week, a playlist is available at the top of the “Classwork” page so you can watch all of the videos.

The deadline to purchase your copy of the 2023-2024 yearbook is rapidly approaching! To ensure you get receive your book, please purchase by January 26, 2024.

10th & 11th grade students can participate in an ECU Health Shadow Opportunity on Tuesday, February 27. PLEASE NOTE the following REQUIRED vaccinations:

Current season Flu Vaccination (after Nov. 1st)
2 MMR or positive titer results

Current Tdap Booster (within last 10 years)

The Junior League of Greenville is hosting a Volunteer Expo at the Greenville Convention Center on Saturday, January 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The pottery studio is in need of plastic. A roll of painters plastic would be a very big deal. Plastic shopping bags are also extremely welcome!

WANTED: HOST FAMILIES FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL YEAR

A host family is responsible for providing a loving environment and transportation to school. Host families receive a stipend to offset the expenses of hosting and the students cover many of their expenses including school tuition, health insurance, phone plan, etc, while in the USA.

We are looking for 5-10 families who would be willing to host an international student for the 2024-2025 school year. Families who receive JPII financial aid can fulfill all of their service-to-school hours by hosting an international student. If you are interested in hosting an international student next school year, please email Doug Smith.

MULCH MADNESS RETURNS!

Bags are 2 cubic feet of mulch (each bag covers 10-12 square feet 2 inches deep) in four colors that are $5 each. Orders will be accepted until Tuesday, March 19 and pickup will be Saturday, March 23. Orders of 25 or more bags can be delivered for free to addresses within 5 miles of the school. Don't need mulch? Consider purchasing bags and donating them to the school.

Pitt Community College is hosting a BioTechnology Bootcamp on February 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Goess & Walter and Marie Williams Buildings.

BOOTCAMP REGISTRATION

Graduating seniors and their parents are invited to attend FAFSA Day at ECU's Joyner Library on Saturday, January 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This is a free event with one-on-one or small group help with FAFSA completion and submission.

The Winter Ball, hosted by 10th grade SGA, will be held in the gym on January 27, 2024 from 7:30-10:00 p.m. Ticket sales will begin the week of December 11 ($10) and will be available at the door for $12. Nominations for Winter Queen and King (all grades are welcome to run) will open on January 16 and end on January 19. Students who would like to invite guests who are not JPII students will need to submit an Event Guest Permission Form to the main office no later than THIS FRIDAY, January 19.

ORDER WINTER BALL TIX

The SAT is going digital in 2024 and Sylvan is offering a seminar to learn the major changes including onboard tools like a built-in calculator that can be used for all the math on the test. Sylvan is also offering a free Digital SAT Practice Day on Jan. 23 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 noon or 1:00-4:00 p.m.

SPRING SPORTS OFFSEASON WORKOUTS

Students who are playing a spring sport and have not yet completed concussion baseline testing will need to do so Wednesday, Jan. 24 or Wednesday, Jan. 31 from 2:45-3:45 p.m. upstairs in the gym. BRING YOUR MACBOOK WITH YOU!

LACROSSE

Boys lacrosse offseason workouts began Tuesday, January 9 and are being held on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 5:00-6:30 p.m. on the turf field.

GIRLS SOCCER

Girls soccer workouts take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:15 p.m. on the turf field until regular spring season training starts in early/mid February. If the temperature and/or wind chill is below 32° at 4:00 p.m. on the day of a workout, the workout is canceled.

TRACK & FIELD

Track & Field workouts are held Mondays through Thursdays beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the gym. The spring season officially begins in early February. Questions? See Coach Corley.

SOFTBALL

Softball will hold workouts Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m. through the end of January. If you are interested in playing softball these workouts are highly recommended in preparation for mandatory practices.

BASEBALL

Baseball practices are Mondays through Fridays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Questions? See Coach Mason or Coach Willis.
