SERVICE TO SCHOOL SIGNUP

Invite your friends and neighbors and Join us for a night of adults-only fun at the tables on Saturday, October 7 from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the gym. We will have seven Blackjack tables, two Roulette tables, and a Craps table that will be open from 6:00-9:30 p.m.; then casino chips can be used to purchase raffle tickets for fantastic items from local businesses. Auction items will also be available.

Students now have the following options for after school from 2:30-3:15 p.m.:

Departmental tutoring
Study hall rooms (homework, waiting for practices to start, or waiting to be picked up)
Clubs or play practices
Leave campus

The gym is now locked from 2:30-3:30 and students should not be “hanging out” outside on the academic or athletic campus. If you are a student-athlete and leave campus, you should not return until 3:15 since coaches are not responsible for starting practices and supervising players until 3:30.

Parents: If your student forgets their lunch and you need to bring them a lunch, please do not drop off lunch from a restaurant or have lunch delivered from DoorDash, Uber Eats, or any other food delivery service. If we allowed all students to do this, the front office would have to spend a lot of time we do not have coordinating delivery of outside lunches to students along with distributing lunches purchased from My Hot Lunchbox. BAKE SALE ON FRIDAY

Senior SGA will be holding a Bake Sale during lunches this Friday. All items are $1; cards, cash, or Venmo!

Parents are seeing how much fun our students are having in the pottery studio that Mrs. Lyles has decided to teach a pottery class for adults! The class will take place on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:30 p.m. starting on September 20 and ending on October 25. Glazes and firings are included and all proceeds benefit the arts at JPII.

Ms. Bradsher is teaching a "paint your pet" watercolor class at Makerspace of Greenville on Tuesday, September 19 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. The pets will be drawn out for you so all you have to do is come have fun with watercolor paint!! She will be sharing a lot of her tips for realism in watercolor! Click/tap the button below if you are interested!

"PAINT YOUR PET" CLASS

Juniors: Applications are being accepted now through September 20 at 12:00 noon for the Chamber of Commerce Teen Leadership Institute. TLI is a program designed to educate through experience and motivate young leaders to take an active role in their community. Through education, networking, peer interaction, and problem solving, the TLI helps prepare students for constructive and responsible involvement in community affairs. Participants will have the opportunities for substantive interaction with his or her peers, community-based service organizations, institutions of higher education, and professionals from the local community. Participants in the program learn the importance of teamwork and gain a better understanding of what it means to be a leader. Last year, JPII seniors Michelle Saucedo-Trinidad and Allison Smith were selected to participate.

Qualifications - All applicants must:

Attend a Pitt County high school (public or private)
Be a junior
Demonstrate outstanding qualities as existing or potential leaders and posses the desire to affect change in their community
Complete the Teen Leadership Institute application in its entirety
A minimum of one recommendation letter from a teacher, coach, employer, etc. to be submitted to Kimber Stone atkimber@greenvillenc.org

Student and parent involvement by volunteering at school events is needed in order to make the events happen! Any parent or student (including students who need service-to-school hours) can use the button below to access current volunteer opportunities. Opportunities are added throughout the year and more opportunities will be added in the next few days.

SATURDAY SERVICE AT CATHOLIC CHARITIES

This Saturday is the first Saturday Service of the year at Catholic Charities! The 2nd Saturday of each month students are encouraged to be of service at Catholic Charities by helping to pack food for distribution to our local community and the communities in surrounding counties. FEES POSTING IN SEPTEMBER

The following fees will be billed to students' Finalsite accounts in September:

fall sports fees - $50 (cheer, cross country, football, boys soccer, girls tennis, girls volleyball)
fall semester elective course fees - $75 per semester (pottery, welding, woodworking)
locker locks - $5

This year's Attractions Dining and Value Guide fundraiser to benefit the entire school is off to a good start but we need every student to participate! Students are responsible for the 4 books they were given and asked to sell all 4 for $25 each. The $100 can be turned into the main office. Students who need more books can see Mr. Harvey in the main office.

Congratulations to our girls soccer team for earning the United Soccer Coaches High School Team Academic Award! JPII is one of 13 schools from NC named to this year's list and only 1 of 3 NC private schools on the list.

All students (especially juniors) are invited to take advantage of FREE ACT test prep sessions led by Mr. Schutt and Mr. Clark on the following Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:

Participating students are encouraged to attend all sessions. The ACT will be administered to 11th grade students on campus on Tuesday, April 9.

Dr. Parker will meet with current juniors and their parents/guardians on Wednesday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the PAC to discuss the college admissions process and what services are available over the coming year, how to utilize SCOIR, and more. All juniors and their parents/guardians are highly encouraged to attend.

MS. THOMSEN'S WEEKLY STUDY TIPS

Study Tip #2: Cornell Note Taking

When a teacher says, "study your notes,” do you freak out? In high school, I tried to write down everything from class, but it was impossible. I wish I’d known about the Cornell note-taking method! This approach focuses on identifying important points, so you record the material taught in class better. Your notes will be organized by topics, reasons (or definitions), and examples. There is also space for questions and a summary. I’ve included the video: “How to Prepare for a New School Year: 10 Ways to Start the School Year Strong!” so you can practice your note taking.

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf.

Varsity Cheer will be hosting tryouts to add up to 5 ladies to the team for basketball season. If you are interested:

please email Coach Holley to receive tryout material (unfortunately girls who plan to play on the varsity basketball team will not be able to participate in cheer for the basketball season)
