INTERNATIONAL STUDENT HOST FAMILY OPPORTUNITY

Maja (middle right) is 16 years old and is from a small town in Germany. She shares the following:

I love to dance. I have been taking jazz and modern dance classes for eight years now. I am very athletic and I like to ski in the winter and swim in the ocean in summer. I enjoy traveling, especially to the beach and warm places, because here where I live we don’t have the ocean near us. In my free time, I like to bake, meet with friends, draw, listen to music, and walk my dog. My friends and family describe me as social, patient, cordial, friendly, considerate, open-minded, optimistic, organized, and responsible. I want to spend a year in the U.S. to get to know American culture and experience an American high school. I hope that my host family can also learn something about my culture as well.

The annual Attractions Dining and Value Guide sale kicks off this week! Each student is asked to participate in this school-wide fundraiser by selling 4 books that are good now through December 2023. Students or parents can see Mr. Harvey for additional books.

CONSTITUTION BEE

All civics and economics students will be participating in the 2nd annual Constitution Bee this Friday, Sept. 16 at ECU. The Constitution Bee began as a partnership between the ECU political science department and JPII and tests student knowledge of the Constitution in a fun environment.

Senior SGA is holding a Bake Sale on Monday during lunch - debit/credit cards and Venmo only!

Please refer to the CDC website for all COVID questions. When a student has COVID-19, isolation is counted in days, as follows:

Day 0 of isolation is the day of symptom onset, regardless of when they tested positive
Day 1 is the first full day after the day your symptoms started

If you test positive for COVID-19, stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others in your home. You are likely most infectious during these first 5 days. You may end isolation after day 5 if you are fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) AND your symptoms are improving. If you still have a fever or your other symptoms have not improved, continue to isolate until they improve.

Mark your calendars! The JPII Performing Arts Department will present its fall horror documentary on Thursday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the PAC. Stay tuned for ticket sales. Children under 12 are not advised to attend the performance due to some prolonged instances of complete darkness and potentially scary elements. Other arrangements will be available for any children who need to attend with adults but not watch the performance.

TEEN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE APPLICATIONS ARE DUE THURSDAY!

Sophomores and juniors: applications are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce Teen Leadership Institute.

Adverting for your family or business is available through our fence signage program. The 4'x8' signs are visible on our athletic campus. Cost is $600 the first year to have the sign installed and to help cover the cost of the sign; $500 each subsequent year (three-year commitment preferred). JPII pays roughly 65% of the sign cost in support of our partnership. Driver's Ed classes have been scheduled for Nov. 28-Dec. 9 and May 1-12, 2023 for students who will be 14-and-a-half as of the first day of the class. The classes will be held Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45 p.m. at the school. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not receive credit for the class and will not receive a refund. Cost is $62.

The first Spirit Night of the year will be held next Wednesday, September 21 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Villa Verde on 10th Street. In order for JPII to receive credit for your purchase, please show this flyer when you pay your bill and write JPIICHS on the receipt.

Tickets will soon be available for this year's barbecue fundraiser in partnership with Parker's Barbecue. This year's dinner - at last year's price!
