On Monday, we will celebrate the feast day of our patron, St. Pope John Paul II, which is recognized each year on Oct. 22 (Saturday). Fr. Joe Yaeger will join us for Mass and we will enjoy fellowship and outdoor games during the 7th & Advisory periods. When the bell rings for 7th period, all students and staff will go to the Athletic Campus for a sweet treat and outdoor games and music.

In an effort to protect Advisory time, we will run a modified Advisory Schedule on Wednesday. "B" clubs will meet after 7th period and we will absorb “Mass time” between 1st and 2nd periods since those classes are often affected by Assembly or Mass running long.

Athletic Trainer Julia Digiacomo will offer Concussion Vital Signs Testing on Tuesday, Oct. 25 immediately after school upstairs in the gym (this is a date change from Oct. 20). Students who intend to participate in basketball, swimming, or wrestling but have not yet completed concussion testing should plan to attend.

OPEN HOUSE ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 5

If you know someone who is considering JPII for their student (or should be!), please share with them that we will be hosting an Open House on Saturday, November 5 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Below is a link to the Open House Facebook Event announcement - please help us spread the word by sharing this!

This is a floating event with a short program at the beginning followed by opportunities to visit with teachers in their classrooms and then with our coaches at the gym.

SHARE THE FACEBOOK EVENT FOR OPEN HOUSE

The Freshman Family Pack would like to have a meet and greet fun-filled tailgate gathering prior to Friday's football game against Parrott Academy. We are excited for all to attend for food and fellowship! Please view the link below if you want to contribute to this event. We will be located on the practice field between the sand volleyball courts and the softball field starting at 5:30 p.m.

"BABY" SAINTS" CHEERLEADERS

The cheer team will host "Baby Saints" for Friday's football game against Parrott. Practice will be held from 3:45-4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 24. Parents of young ladies (ages 5-11) who would like to participate should contact Coach Holley at qholley@jp2highschool.com for more information!

FALL PLAY IS THIS WEEK!

Using interviews from witnesses, loved ones, first responders, and the investigators pursuing the case, our theater ensemble brings the story of a strange, incomprehensible event to life. But as the strands weave together into an increasingly dangerous web, it becomes clear that this phenomenon might not be entirely in the past. Join us this Thursday, October 27 or Saturday, October 29 at 7:00 p.m. to discover what happened.

SPRING DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSES

A representative from Pitt Community College will be visiting on November 7 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. for juniors and seniors who are interested in taking dual enrollment courses this spring through Career and College Promise. More details on signing up for time slots will be sent out in the next week or so.

The Governor’s School of North Carolina is the oldest statewide summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students in the nation. The program, which is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two college campuses: a site to be determined in western NC and Meredith College in Raleigh.

Students interested in Summer 2023 Governor's School should contact Ms. Blanton for details on the application process. Complete application packets are due to Ms. Blanton by Friday, November 18.

Art Club will be painting pumpkins this Wednesday. Please remember to bring a pumpkin if you are in Art Club or if you are a faculty member interested in participating! If you would like to donate a pumpkin to one of the Art Club students, please send it to Ms. Bradsher's trailer deck and label it with your name so we can thank you!

RETREAT FEES
As shared during the admissions process and on the Tuition and Fees webpage, a $60 fee is reserved each year for retreats; $30 of that fee will be billed to each student's SchoolAdmin account for November.

The Arts Booster Club is hosting a Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, December 10 from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. in the JPII Athletic Center. Vendor space is available for $50 per table.

VENDOR APPLICATION

Driver's Ed classes have been scheduled for Nov. 28-Dec. 9 and May 1-12, 2023 for students who will be 14-and-a-half as of the first day of the class. The classes will be held Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45 p.m. at the school. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not receive credit for the class and will not receive a refund. Cost is $62.

Students love to stop by the main office for a piece of candy and we are running low! If you are shopping for Halloween candy and would like to donate some to the main office, we'd love to have it! Thanks in advance!
