Holy Week observances began in Jerusalem in the earliest days of the Church, when devout people traveled to Jerusalem at Passover to reenact the events of the week leading up to the Resurrection. It is the holiest week of the liturgical year, beginning today, Palm Sunday, and continuing until Easter Sunday. It celebrates the Paschal Mystery, the passion and death of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and his victorious resurrection, his triumph over sin and death, and his glorification by his Father. The purpose of Holy Week is to reenact, relive, and participate in the passion of Jesus Christ.

• Palm Sunday, the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem
• Holy Thursday, the institution of Communion and the betrayal by Judas
• Good Friday, the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ
• Holy Saturday, the Sabbath on which Jesus rested in the grave

• Easter Sunday, the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord

Family members are invited to celebrate with the students, faculty, and staff the mystery of Christ's Passion at Stations of the Cross this Wednesday, April 13, from 8:55-9:30 a.m. in the PAC.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD TO COMPETE AT STATES

The Science Olympiad team will travel to NC State on April 23 to participate in the state competition. Participants are asked to have all forms that were emailed to parents on April 6 turned in by Tuesday, April 12. Also, if you need a ride, make sure to let Mrs. Lyles know!

The junior class has earned a Pizza Party during lunch on Tuesday for selling the most Bracket Mania brackets! If you’ve ordered lunch for Tuesday, you have until 12 noon on Monday to cancel your order.

Students interested in serving on SGA next year need to see Mrs. Lyles for eligibility and forms which will be due May 6.

MUSIC LESSONS

Would you like to learn an instrument? Do you have an instrument sitting around your house but haven't picked it up since elementary school? Are you interested in participating in the pep band in the winter, but don't currently play an instrument? Ms. Goodman offers instrumental and voice lessons over the summer at the school, including piano. Contact her for rates and scheduling details. You must provide your own instrument (but Ms. Goodman can help you acquire one if needed!)

Spend an afternoon on the golf course while supporting our school! The inaugural JPII Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, May 5 (Cinco de Mayo!) at Greenville Country Club with a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start. Individual playing spots are $125 or make it an afternoon with three friends to play as a team for $500. Hole sponsorships are also available. Click the button below to learn more.

NEXT DRIVER'S ED CLASS IS IN MAY

Students who need to take driver's ed and will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, May 9 are eligible to participate in a class that will be held at the school May 9-13 and 16-20 from 3:15-6:15 p.m. each day. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII.
