The student section theme for Friday's football game against Parrott is PINK in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - perfect for fans of the Barbie movie!

HOMECOMING DANCE

This year's Homecoming theme is "Under the Stars." The dance will be held Saturday, October 14 from 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the gym. Tickets are $17 each and will be sold through Friday, October 13. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Study Tip #5: MLA Formatting Pt. 1

It’s essay writing time of the semester not only for many of your classes, but the DAR and National English Honors Society’s Intellectual Freedom Essays are due soon, too! In this movie, you review MLA general formatting for your essays. Next week’s Part 2 goes over how to format your in-text citations and Works Cited page in detail. If you need help, have questions on formatting your papers, or want to see part 2 earlier than next week, I am at JPII every afternoon: 6th period in S105 and 7th period and 2:30-3:30 in S104.

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf.

The Diocese of Raleigh Eucharistic Congress will be held Saturday, October 21 from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in Raleigh. Members of the JPII family who would like to represent our school should email Dr. Infinito.

The next Saturday Service of the year at Catholic Charities is October 14. The 2nd Saturday of each month students are encouraged to be of service at Catholic Charities by helping to pack food for distribution to our local community and the communities in surrounding counties. Our next practice ACT session will be held on Saturday, November 4 in the North Hall Science Classrooms. All juniors are strongly encouraged to attend and interested sophomores are also welcome. We will then review the practice tests every Friday afternoon starting this Friday, October 6 from 2:30-3:30.

ACT Prep takes place on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:

Participating students are encouraged to attend all sessions. The ACT will be administered to 11th grade students on campus on Tuesday, April 9.

The Pitt County Coalition on Substance Use Youth Team is accepting applications from 9th-12th grade students who are drug-free, hardworking, creative, team players to help in their mission of ensuring that youth reject substance use, adults utilize low-risk choices regarding substance use, and ensuring that treatment services are available for those in need.

PCCSU APPLICATION

Four of NC's premier merit scholarships are providing a virtual information session on Thursday, October 5 at 6:00 p.m. Program representatives will give an overview of each scholarship and attendees will be able to enter breakout rooms for specific program questions.

This session will include:

Brinkley-Lane Scholars - ECU
Cheatham-White Scholarship Program - NC Central

The UNC System is hosting its fourth annual Virtual Open House for prospective students and families to learn more about the 16 UNC System universities. During the week of October 2, 2023, a series of four virtual sessions will be hosted via Zoom. Admissions Counselors from each institution will share helpful information about the admissions process and current students from each university will share about their college experience and answer your questions live.

DRIVER'S ED

Students who will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, November 27 and need to take driver's ed are eligible to participate in the class that will be held at the school Monday-Friday, November 27-December 8 from 2:45-5:45 p.m. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. The next class will be held April 22-May 3; both the November/December and April/May sessions are available on the registration form.

Tickets are now available for this year's barbecue fundraiser in partnership with Parker's Barbecue. Tickets are $11 and are good for a small combination pork barbecue & chicken (leg or thigh) plate with slaw, boiled potatoes, green beans, hush puppies, and cornsticks (no beverage). This meal is $12.50 if purchased in the restaurant.

Casino Night

Open House will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon for new parents and students who are interested in enrolling for the 2024-2025 school year. If you know of families who are considering JPII for their son or daughter for next year, please make sure they know about this opportunity and encourage them to attend!

This is a floating event with a short program at the beginning followed by opportunities to visit with teachers in their classrooms and then with our coaches at the gym.

November 10, 2023 is the priority deadline for applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Students who apply by November 10 will receive a decision letter by December 8.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL WINTER SPORTS STUDENT-ATHLETES: BASKETBALL, CHEER, SWIMMING, AND WRESTLING

Please review the Athletics Medical Information for Winter 2023-2024 to be sure that everything is completed prior to the October 25, 2023 deadline to participate in winter sports! This includes Concussion Baseline Testing which will be offered October 11 & 17.

Interested in joining the swim team but missed the interest meeting? There is still time to join! All interested swimmers or parents, please email Coach Geiger. Swimmers need to have their baseline concussion testing and forms completed in RankOne by October 25. Concussion testing will be provided after school on October 11 & 17. Sign up here.

SWIM TEAM INFO

We are looking for a JV baseball coach for the upcoming season. Practices begin in early January & the season completes at the end of April. A stipend is associated with this position. Those with interest should email Coach Mason or call the school at 252-215-1224.

WRESTLING PRESEASON WORKOUTS

Preseason workouts for wrestling start this week! They will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Workouts are held at 102-B Hungate Drive. Questions? Email Coach Sisk or see him at a FCA meeting.

Softball will hold offseason workouts on Mondays and Fridays this week from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

The deadline to participate in Esports is Sunday, October 15. To sign up, please email Coach Kellum so he can provide you with all of the information and when meetings will begin.

There is a $50 fee per season to participate. There are three seasons per school year. Once you have signed up, your Finalsite Enrollment account will be billed each season. Participants will also need to provide their own gaming headset.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - THE BABY SAINTS CHEER TEAM!

The Varsity Lady Saints will be the Baby Saints' hosts again this football season. On October 20, kids between the ages of 4 and 13 can join the cheer team for senior night! Interested individuals should email Coach Holley for details on practices and attire.

Varsity Cheer will be hosting tryouts to add up to 5 ladies to the team for basketball season. If you are interested:

please email Coach Holley to receive tryout material (unfortunately girls who plan to play on the varsity basketball team will not be able to participate in cheer for the basketball season)
have a current physical prior to October 25

CAROLINA PREGNANCY CENTER CELEBRATE LIFE BANQUET

There is no cost to attend this adults-only event. However, there will be an opportunity to partner financially with CPC. Please RSVP, host a table, and find details by September 30 at friendsofcpc.org.

Ms. Bradsher is teaching an evening watercolor class at Makerspace of Greenville on Tuesday, October 17! When you sign up for the class, you can send a photo of your house (ahead of time) and it will be drawn out for you when you arrive! Come and enjoy a relaxing art experience and learn about watercolor painting.
