Dear JPII families,

Happy Sunday, and I hope everyone is doing well.

This week begins Lent and we will have Mass on Wednesday in observance of Ash Wednesday. We welcome Fr. James Moore, OP from the Dominican Order who will be with us to celebrate Mass that day.

Also, as the month of February comes to a close, the JPII Multicultural Club invites all students, staff, and faculty to wear black tomorrow as we stand in solidarity to celebrate the conclusion of Black History Month (JPII dress code rules apply - must be modest and respectful, no pajamas, and bottoms must be covered if ladies wear yoga pants).

Spring sports events start this week and there are 4 volunteer opportunities that need to be filled: 1 on Wednesday and 3 on Thursday. If you can help, please sign up. Thanks in advance!

Finally, this Tuesday evening from 6:30-7:30 Mr. Balot, Mr. Harvey, and I will be hosting an all-school meeting in the PAC to discuss the current state of the school. Future development plans and the mission and vision of JPII will also be highlighted. We encourage all of our families to attend!

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD ADVANCES TO STATES

Congratulations to our Science Olympiad team who qualified for the state competition at NC State on April 22 & 23!

BRACKET MANIA IS HERE!

Bracket Mania is our spring school-wide fundraiser and your picks could be worth $250-$1,000 - but only if you play! Filling out a bracket for the college basketball tournament is an annual American tradition. There’s nothing like picking a winner and whether you pick teams by stats, colors, mascots, or you just don’t like the other team – don't miss your opportunity to win $250-$1,000 while supporting the academic and athletic needs of JPII students! Here’s how it works:

Since brackets are filled out online, anyone anywhere can participate so share this opportunity with family and friends near and far!
Brackets are $20 each – buy 1 or buy more than 1 – you can enter as many times as you’d like.
Reserve your bracket(s) now by paying with a credit card using the form on this page or Venmo @JPIICatholic with the note “Bracket Mania” and your email address.
Shortly after the teams are announced on Sunday, March 13 at 6:00 p.m. ET, those who have purchased brackets will receive a link and password to fill out their bracket(s).
All brackets must be completed by 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 17th!
Points are awarded for each winning pick; point values increase as the tournament progresses.
The person with the most points at the end of the NCAA Tournament wins!

All money raised will go toward the academic and athletic needs of JPII students!

PRINTING ASSIGNMENTS

We are aware that students cannot currently add personal printers to their MacBooks so they can print assignments at home. We are working to fix this so that assignments can be printed at home instead of the main office.

PAJAMA DAY ON MARCH 8

There will be a pajama day fundraiser on March 8 for prom. Students who would like to participate pay $3:

NEXT DRIVER'S ED CLASS IS IN MAY

Students who need to take driver's ed and will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, May 9 are eligible to participate in a class that will be held at the school May 9-13 and 16-20 from 3:15-6:15 p.m. each day. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. GIRLS BIBLE STUDY

The Bible study that Mrs. Mabe will be leading during advisory each week starts on March 9. "Radiant" by Priscilla Shirer will help girls understand how they are way more than the labels they (and the world) puts on them...they will discover their true identity in Christ! Girls who attend at least 6 of the 8 meetings will be invited to a special "spa night" celebration in May. The cost is $10 to cover the book which can be paid by cash or check to Mrs. Mabe, Paypal (paypal.me/jfmabe), or Venmo (Jennifer-Mabe-2).

CFNC "LIFE AFTER FAFSA" WEBINAR TUESDAY AT 6PM

Before you enroll in a college, you need to know the final cost. Join CFNC representatives Timeka Ruffin and Devon McCarthy-James to see what to look for on your student aid report, understand the terms of your college financial aid offer letters, and learn the types of student loans. JUNIORS CAN NOW APPLY FOR TAR HEEL BOYS OR GIRLS STATE

The Greenville American Legion Post 39 is seeking high school juniors who would like to attend the prestigious Tar Heel Boys or Girls State program. The post will sponsor and pay the tuition fee for selected delegates to attend the week-long camp at Catawba College. The girls’ dates are June 12-18 and the boys will attend June 19-25. The program is designed to give delegates hands-on experience in forming and running all levels of NC state government while developing leadership and communicative skills. Become an informed citizen and stand out among your peers! Applicants must be a rising senior, 16-18 years old, have a 3.0 unweighted GPA or equivalent, and be a resident of the state for at least one year. LEBO BASKETBALL CAMP

For the 2nd consecutive year, UNC Assistant Basketball Coach Jeff Lebo and his son Creighton will host a basketball camp at the JPII Athletic Center for boys and girls ages 5-14. The dates for this year's camp are June 27-30 and registration is now available at RisingStarsHoops.net. Take advantage of savings offer with early registration!
