Dear JPII family,

I hope you all are enjoying this beautiful fall weekend! As we jump into this new season our students are busy planning for Homecoming, rehearsing for our fall play, practicing on the courts and fields, and are signing up for school clubs.

Last Wednesday during the Advisory period, our students participated in a follow-up activity for a Temperament Survey they completed. This time allowed for self-reflection and group discussion to address their individual strengths and areas of improvement. Please ask your child if they were a "Doer," "Influencer," "Relator," or "Thinker." Moving forward, this information will help our teachers best meet the needs of each individual student.

On Friday we enjoyed a spur-of-the-moment shaving cream fight and treats from Kona Ice. It was crazy and fun!! Nothing like a little shaving cream to help our students and faculty bond! Parents, if you missed the video of it, here it is.

Also, a big thanks to our Peer Ministry who helped clean up 14th Street on Friday afternoon. We had 24 students volunteer and give up their free Friday afternoon in order to serve our community. I am so proud of these servant leaders!

Thank you to the following families for volunteering at the school this week: Atkinson, Bernal, Escobar, Hasselbach, and Shorter. We can't do all that we do without you!

Finally, as I visit classrooms during the week I am delighted to observe the active and engaged learning that is happening. All of our faculty offer before or after-school help if students are in need. Please remind your child that this support is available; the only thing they need to do is ask.

LABEL YOUR BELONGINGS!

The "lost and found" pile at the main office is growing with lunch boxes, sweatshirts, water bottles, and other items. We highly encourage students to put your name on your belongings so we can easily return them to you if they are found.

STUDENT-ATHLETES: HAVE YOU SOLD YOUR ATTRACTIONS BOOKS?

Families of student-athletes (or any family!) are asked to help support our athletic programs by selling the Attractions Dining and Value Guide coupon books that are good now through December 2022. Each student-athlete is asked to sell 10 books. Students or parents can see Mr. Harvey for additional books; money does not need to be collected upfront.

CLARIFICATIONS ON SERVICE TO SCHOOL HOURS

For students who need to earn service to school hours, the student must be the one to volunteer at events to get credit for the hours (parents cannot earn hours for their student). Also, only JPII service events count toward service to school hours (volunteering in the community does not count). All of our JPII opportunities can be found here and more options will be posted throughout the year. If you have questions, please contact Trayce Wilson-Ruffin.

CHANGE FOR VENDING MACHINES

Students: If you would like to use the vending machines, please plan to bring dollar bills or change with you to school. The main office can no longer be used as a bank!

HOMECOMING DANCE

The junior class invites all students to the Homecoming Dance on October 23 from 8:00-11:30 p.m. This year's theme is " Light It Up." Tickets will be $10 each and will go on sale next week. Students wishing to bring a guest must turn in an Event Guest Permission Form to the main office by October 15.

'PINK OUT' T-SHIRTS

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the home football game on Oct. 7 will be a 'Pink Out' and SADD is selling $10 pink JPII T-shirts as a fundraiser. Students and parents can order shirts; students will be able to wear the shirt to school on Oct. 7 and any spirit wear day.

SOFTBALL OFFSEASON WORKOUTS

Ladies who are interested in playing softball this spring are invited to participate in offseason workouts on Saturdays through October from 9:00-10:30 a.m.

FREE COLLEGE APPLICATION WEEK IS OCT. 18-22

Seniors: free college application week will be October 18-22. Please see Dr. Parker if you need help or guidance completing your applications!
