As the Diocese of Raleigh continues the Centennial celebration., JPII will receive the Centennial Monstrance this Tuesday, March 12th from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students and staff will have the opportunity to spend time in adoration in front of the Most Blessed Sacrament at JPII. Parents who would like to spend a holy hour during this time are asked to email Mrs. Tulis for scheduling.

RE-ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL STARTED LAST WEEK! Be sure to re-enroll (contract signed and fee paid) by March 31 to save $100 on the annual student fee. Make sure you do not have an outstanding balance on your student's current tuition account. Parents are not able to re-enroll their student(s) for the 2024-2025 school year if there is an outstanding balance on the current tuition account.

MS. THOMSEN'S WEEKLY STUDY TIPS

Study Tip #23: “Transferable Skills: Being on Time (by using sticky notes & alarms)” Being on time is a transferable skill that will make you a valuable employee and successful in college. In this video, I will share some of my tricks that keep me organized, and why procrastination is not a good idea. Being professional in the classroom like arriving on time to school and ready for class will lead to higher grades. Your teachers will love you as much as your employers do! :)

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf. If you missed a week, a playlist is available at the top of the “Classwork” page so you can watch all of the videos. Also, I am at JPII every afternoon: 6th period in S105 and 7th period in S104, and 2:30-3:30 in S104, so stop by!

WORKS OF MERCY OPPORTUNITY FOR PI DAY!

Help Catholic Charities celebrate Pi Day and feed the local community!

Bring any kind of store bought or home baked pie (no refrigerated or frozen pies) to school Monday or Tuesday and receive one hour for Works of Mercy! All pies will be delivered to Catholic Charities for Pi Day! Your name must be on the pie to receive credit.

MULCH MADNESS!

The deadline to order mulch is 2 weeks from Tuesday! Bags are 2 cubic feet of mulch (each bag covers 10-12 square feet 2 inches deep) in four colors that are $5 each. Orders will be accepted until Tuesday, March 19 and pickup will be Saturday, March 23. Orders of 25 or more bags can be delivered for free to addresses within 5 miles of the school. Don't need mulch? Consider purchasing bags and donating them to the school.

OUR BOWLS OVERFLOWETH

On April 19th from 4:00-7:00 p.m., stop by JPII and pick up one or more of a variety of homemade soups for dinner. Your soup and bowl ticket for this event provides you with a handmade pottery bowl and a 32-ounce container of soup that serves 2 to 4 people. The soups will be frozen for your use anytime. Click here if you are interested in donating soup.

Additional bowls or soups can be purchased. The bowls are created by JPII teachers and students as well as several pottery guilds in Greenville and Pitt County so each one is a work of art. Dinner made easy!

Selection of bowls and soups is on a first-come, first-served basis at pickup.

Join Haven at Blue Creek on Saturday, April 20 for the inaugural 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, Walk, and Ruck on their stunning grounds in Grimesland. The First Step 5k is organized to support Haven at Blue Creek, a Women's Rehabilitation Center committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for women overcoming addiction. Join us for post-race refreshments, entertainment including bouncy houses for children, and a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere.

Families can also support Haven at Blue Creek during the month of March at Great Harvest Bread Co. As the "Non-Profit of the Month," Haven will receive a percentage of sales of carrot cake that will be made daily at the bakery.

The PCC Career and College Promise Office is partnering with Pitt Community College's Hispanic Outreach Services to present a Career and College Promise Information Night on March 27th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Goess Student Center's Davenport Multipurpose Room on PCC's campus.

This is a great opportunity for students and their families to learn more about the Career and College Promise program. This hour-long event will provide information about the Career and College Promise program in English and Spanish.

Current 10th and 11th graders interested in taking dual enrollment classes with Pitt Community College next school year need to stop by and see Ms. Blanton for an application before Friday, March 22nd. Remember, you must have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 to be eligible. PCC will be at JPII on Thursday, April 11th for summer and fall registration. An appointment sign-up will be sent out closer to the date.

Fr. Ian will be at the school this Friday, March 15th during lunches for students, faculty, and staff who would like to go to confession.

SELECTION SUNDAY IS A WEEK AWAY - HAVE YOU REGISTERED FOR BRACKET MANIA?

Bracket Mania is our spring school-wide fundraiser and your picks could be worth $250-$1,000 - but only if you play! Filling out a bracket for the college basketball tournament is an annual American tradition. There’s nothing like picking a winner and whether you pick teams by stats, colors, mascots, or you just don’t like the other team – don't miss your opportunity to win $250-$1,000 while supporting the academic and athletic needs of JPII students! Here’s how it works:

Since brackets are filled out online, anyone anywhere can participate so share this opportunity with family and friends near and far!
Brackets are $20 each – buy 1 or buy more than 1 – you can enter as many times as you’d like.
Reserve your bracket(s) now by paying with a credit card using the form linked below or Venmo @JPIICatholic with the note “Bracket Mania” and your email address.
Shortly after the teams are announced on Sunday, March 17 at 6:00 p.m. ET, those who have purchased brackets will receive a link and password to fill out their bracket(s).
All brackets must be completed by 12:00 noon on Thursday, March 21st!
Points are awarded for each winning pick; point values increase as the tournament progresses.
The top 10 point leaders in each of the first 5 rounds will be placed in a raffle drawing to win a cash prize.
After the final game, all individuals with the highest point totals and the winning team selected will be placed in a raffle to win the grand prize.

All money raised will go toward the academic and athletic needs of JPII students!

DRIVER'S ED

Students who will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, April 22 and need to take driver's ed are eligible to participate in the class that will be held at the school April 22-May 3 (except those students going on the DC Trip). The class will be held Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45 p.m. with the exception of April 26 and May 1. There is no class on April 26 and class will be held 12:00 noon-6:00 p.m. on May 1. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. Students interested in cheerleading for the 2024-2025 school year are encouraged to participate in summer workouts scheduled for June 4–6 and June 10, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at noon. Tryouts will be held June 12th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. If you're interested in participating in cheer for the 2024–2025 school year, please email Coach Holley.

The Ulster Project of Greenville is looking for families with teens ages 14-16 to host a northern Irish teen for 3 weeks this summer from June 26th to July 18th. Both teens, visiting and hosting, will have a schedule of fun activities, service projects, day trips, a 3-night trip to Washington D.C., attending church services, time of discoveries, and more. Visiting teens can share a bedroom with the host teen. Most days will be dropping off in the morning and picking up in the evening. Help with drop off and pick up is available. The project is free of charge and provides service hours. Families can express interest via email or by calling Silvia Frizzelle at 252-258-5963.

Applications for the Ronald McDonald House Teen Ambassador Program are due May 1. The Teen Ambassador Program is comprised of a select group of high school students chosen based on academic merit and commitment to volunteering. Ambassadors gain a greater understanding of several aspects of a nonprofit organization and shows them the importance of giving back to the community. Teens commit to a service year from September – May and meet at least once a month at RMHC of Eastern NC.

Coach Jeff Lebo’s 15th Annual Summer Basketball Camp in Greenville is set for June 24-27 and July 22-25 for boys and girls ages 5-13.
