Mass Day is Monday this week for All Souls Day

SAINT OF THE WEEK

St. Maria Goretti was a young Italian girl who was brutally attacked by a man from her village. Right before she died so told the people near her she forgave the man, mirroring Christ on the Cross. This would eventually lead to the man's conversion in prison and his being a leading witness in her cause for canonization. St Maria Goretti is the patron of rape victims, young girls, victims of crime, and modern youth. READ MORE

In lieu of our traditional fall barbecue sale at the school, this year we are partnering with Parker's Barbecue for our fall fundraiser. Each family is asked to sell 10 tickets that buyers can redeem November 27-December 11 at any of the 3 Parker's locations in Greenville for a small combination pork barbecue and chicken (leg or thigh) plate with slaw, boiled potatoes, green beans, hush puppies, and corn sticks (does not include beverage). Each ticket is $9 and can be purchased online or by using this paper form that can be turned in with payment to the main office.

Watch this video to revisit the Feast Day celebration for our patron, St. Pope John Paul II. We celebrated Mass as a whole school for the first time this year; played dodgeball, kickball, beach volleyball, and touch football; enjoyed some Kona Ice at lunch; and had an Among Us tournament.

WREATH FUNDRAISER

If you would like to order an evergreen wreath, swag, or centerpiece from the Vermont Center Wreath Company as part of the school's bulk order, (which earns the school at least $15 per item), orders are due no later than THIS TUESDAY. TRANSITIONING TO

IN-PERSON LEARNING ON NOV. 16

A reminder that if a student is going to switch from remote to in-person learning on November 16, you need to notify the school by tomorrow (Monday) by using this form. Also, your student will need to start completing the 14-Day Health Screen on Monday, November 2. They will need to bring this completed form with them on the 16th in order to enter the building.

CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS FROM NCISAA 2A CHAMPIONSHIPS

Competing at the 2A level for the first time, the Saints men’s and women’s cross country teams learned some valuable lessons and even managed to set a few personal-bests at the state meet on Friday at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte.

The men's team finished 21st (570) as Davidson Day (90) took the title. But JPII got personal-best times from freshmen Johnallen King (23:47.9, 120th) and Hayden Danielson (25:51.7, 135th) along with strong showings from sophomores Tyler Moore and Bryan Arvizu, who finished together in 24:19.6 to place 124th and 125th. Both Moore and Arvizu were very close to their best times. And, as usual, sophomore Esteban Escobar led the way for the Saints as he gutted out his first state-level race and finished 66th in 21:03.4. If this team sticks with it, next season could be a very special one.

The women's team was down one runner at state, therefore did not post a team score. The seniors led JPII, with Maggie Geiger taking 84th in 26:43.4 and Gabi Kennedy 107th in 30:41.6. Both were close to PRs. Sophomores Jessica Corley (32:33.3, 115th) and Kathryn Kaoud (34:45.3, 118th) also had good days.

WINTER SPORTS OFFICIALLY START MONDAY

The winter sports season officially starts on Monday which means official practices for basketball, cheer, and swimming begin this week:

Men's Basketball: 6:45-8:15 p.m.
Women's Basketball: 5:00-6:15 p.m.
Cheer: Wednesdays from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Swimming: TBA
