Open House for new parents and students who are interested in enrolling for the 2024-2025 school year will be held on Saturday, October 28 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon. Please help us spread the word by sharing theevent on Facebook. If you know of families who are considering JPII for their son or daughter for next year, please make sure they know about this opportunity and encourage them to attend!

This is a floating event with a short program at the beginning followed by opportunities to visit with teachers in their classrooms and then with our coaches at the gym.

November 10, 2023 is the priority deadline for applications for the 2024-2025 school year. Students who apply by November 10 will receive a decision letter by December 8.

Study Tip #8: Commas, Colons, and Semicolons

This video answers the most frequent questions I get about how to use commas, semicolons, and colons correctly. Pause the video to get a closer look at the examples and notes. Next, download the camera phone and take a FUN ACT Practice Assessment for punctuation at our Study Tips Google Classroom. I am at JPII every afternoon: 6th period in S105 and 7th period in S104, and 2:30-3:30 in S104, so stop by!

Each week, I will post a new video (3-5 minutes). You can also join my "JPII Weekly Study Tips" Google Classroom to download the materials. The class code is vsffbqf.

The Diocese of Raleigh Eucharistic Congress will be held Saturday, October 21 from 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in Raleigh. Members of the JPII family who would like to represent our school should email Dr. Infinito.

FALL PLAY TICKETS

The Attractions Dining and Value Guide Fundraiser ends October 20. Thank you to everyone who participated in this effort! We are very close to reaching our goal of $9,000 raised in support of our students, faculty, and staff. Any books not returned by Friday will be charged to the student's account.

ACT PRACTICE TESTS

Our next practice ACT session will be held on Saturday, November 4 in the North Hall Science Classrooms. All juniors are strongly encouraged to attend and interested sophomores are also welcome.

ACT practice tests will be held on the following Saturdays from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.:

The ACT will be administered to 11th grade students on campus on Tuesday, April 9.

The North Carolina Governor's School is a 4-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of the two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline and does not involve credit, tests, or grades. The program, which is open to rising seniors only, with exceptions made for rising juniors in selected performing/visual arts areas, is located on two campuses of up to 400 students each.

Students who are interested in applying for Governor's School for the summer of 2024 need to contact Ms. Blanton; application packets are due to her by Friday, December 1. Last year, Natalie Blaubach attended in the area of choral music.

Students who are interested in traveling to Ireland and England in June of 2025 are invited to attend an interest meeting on Tuesday, October 24 at 5:30 p.m. in the PAC. Please bring a parent with you!

DRIVER'S ED

Students who will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, November 27 and need to take driver's ed are eligible to participate in the class that will be held at the school Monday-Friday, November 27-December 8 from 2:45-5:45 p.m. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. Click the button below for online registration (includes a $2 processing fee); or contact Business Manager Mary Ershadi if you would like to pay cash or check. The next class will be held April 22-May 3; both the November/December and April/May sessions are available on the registration form.

LAST CALL FOR BARBECUE TICKETS! Tickets are $11 and are good for a small combination pork barbecue & chicken (leg or thigh) plate with slaw, boiled potatoes, green beans, hush puppies, and cornsticks (no beverage). This meal is $12.50 if purchased in the restaurant.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL WINTER SPORTS STUDENT-ATHLETES: BASKETBALL, CHEER, SWIMMING, AND WRESTLING

Please review the Athletics Medical Information for Winter 2023-2024 to be sure you have completed everything prior to the October 25, 2023 deadline to participate in winter sports! This includes Concussion Baseline Testing which will be offered October 11 & 17 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. upstairs in the gym.

The deadline to participate in Esports is NOW! To sign up, please email Coach Kellum so he can provide you with all of the information and when meetings will begin.

There is a $50 fee per season to participate. There are three seasons per school year. Once you have signed up, your Finalsite Enrollment account will be billed each season. Participants will also need to provide their own gaming headset.

There is no cost to attend this adults-only event. However, there will be an opportunity to partner financially with CPC. Please RSVP, host a table, and find details by September 30 at friendsofcpc.org.

Ms. Bradsher is teaching an evening watercolor class at Makerspace of Greenville on Tuesday, October 17! When you sign up for the class, you can send a photo of your house (ahead of time) and it will be drawn out for you when you arrive! Come and enjoy a relaxing art experience and learn about watercolor painting.
