SUMMER UPDATE #4 July 26, 2023 Questions? Email mainoffice@jp2highschool.com Main Office Summer Hours: Tuesdays-Thursdays 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. |
THERE IS A LOT OF NEW INFORMATION IN THIS UPDATE! WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE THE TIME TO REVIEW THE INFORMATION CAREFULLY. Parents/Guardians: please encourage your student(s) to start monitoring their JPII email account on a regular basis between now and the start of school in case the school, teachers, and/or coaches send them information they need to know. |
OUR PARKING LOT IS THE TALK OF THE TOWN! If only we had a dollar every time we've been asked, "is the parking lot going to be ready for the first day of school?" We received an update recently from the person who is in charge of the project and, barring a significant force of Mother Nature, the part of the parking lot that is intended to be completed prior to the school year will be ready for the first day of school. |

SCHOOL SUPPLIES The list of general school supplies for this year is just 1 item: paper. - 11th & 12th grade families are asked to provide 6 reams of paper during the first week of school to be dropped off at the main office.
- 9th & 10th grade families are asked to provide 6 reams when we return from Christmas break in January.
Due to the significant number of cracked screens last year, this year students need to have a laptop sleeve (similar to the one pictured) that will hold a 13.3″ laptop to protect their MacBook (not just a case). Here are some laptop sleeve options on Amazon. It is also highly preferred for students to protect their MacBook (and help distinguish it from other MacBooks) with a case for a 2021/2022 13-inch MacBook Air. |
|
Student schedules will be released on Tuesday, August 1. August 1st will also be the date that all new students and parents/guardians will be sent instructions on how to create their FACTS login. Since students already know most if not all of the courses they will be taking, we are going ahead and releasing this year's school supply list in case families want to do school shopping this weekend. |

DRESS CODE SIMPLIFIED The daily dress code will now be the dress code every day. Students must come dressed for school (they cannot dress at their locker or in the bathroom) and are expected to abide by the dress code at all times during the school day. The daily dress code is as follows: - tops: a gray, navy blue, light blue, white, or light yellow polo or a JPII spirit wear shirt; JPII outerwear if desired
- bottoms: modest navy blue or khaki fingertip length shorts or skirts (ladies only, no higher than 3 inches above the knee) or slacks, including solid navy blue or khaki joggers
- shoes: closed-toe shoes, Crocs, sandals, sneakers, or boots (no slides)
Additionally: - If a student is wearing outerwear that includes a hood, at no time should the hood be on their head.
- Clothing must fit appropriately. Anything that is overly tight or form-fitting is not considered modest and therefore not acceptable. Clothes should also not be too baggy, ripped, or tattered. There should be no cleavage and no bare midriffs, whether this is caused by tops “rising up” or bottoms “riding down.”
- At no time are the following items appropriate to wear during the school day: hats inside the building, pajamas, athletic pants, and short running shorts.
- Only modest ear piercings are allowed.
- Any hairstyle that causes a disturbance in the learning environment is not allowed. If a student dyes their hair, it must be of a natural color.
- Tattoos must be covered at all times.
Students are required to comply with all staff instructions regarding dress and appearance. Staff reserves the right to determine at any time if any piece of clothing, jewelry, or anything worn by the student is unacceptable in the school environment and may ask the student to change or remove it. If a student is not following dress code guidelines, the appropriate disciplinary action will be applied. Questions about this policy should be directed to the dean of students. |

NEW FAMILIES CAN CREATE LUNCH ACCOUNTS Families new to JPII who would like to order lunch from our partners at My Hot Lunchbox can go ahead and create your account (we will let you know when ordering is available). To create an account, click here and fill in all the required fields to create your account. Be sure to add a profile for each student you are ordering for. For now, put Lunch A on your student's profile - once they receive their schedule you can change it if they have Lunch B. Lunch ordering will open about two weeks prior to the start of school. |

DO YOU LIKE AIRPLANES? If so, “get ready for takeoff," because JPII is starting an Aviation Club this fall for all who are interested. We plan to visit local sites and events, have guest speakers, and learn and enjoy everything and anything about this exciting topic. In addition to pilot topics, we will also discover other aspects of aviation including aircraft maintenance, air traffic control, flight attendants, as a hobby, and even drones too. Want to join us? Complete the interest form soon as we have many ideas in mind but want to prioritize them accordingly based on student feedback and overall interest. Questions? Contact Mrs. Lyles. |
| | Visit jp2highschool.com/calendar for the most up-to-date school calendar (a one-page version of the calendar can be downloaded here). Summer is often a good time to order JPII spirit wear. The Saints Shop, EB Sports, and Ink'd Threads are the official providers of JPII spirit wear. The Saints Shop is the on-campus spirit wear store. Orders are pulled soon after they are submitted and are picked up at the school. The EB Sports store closes each Tuesday and re-opens the following day. We recommend ordering on the weekend or Monday since orders are pulled on Tuesday. If you order on Wednesday, your order will not be pulled until the following Tuesday thus adding a week to processing. Orders can take 2-3 weeks to process and complete from the store closing date! Any items that become back-ordered due to challenges with suppliers may take longer than the 3 weeks for delivery. Orders from EB Sports are delivered to the school; if you order from Ink'd Threads you can choose to either pick up your order or have it delivered to the school when you checkout. |

ATHLETICS INFORMATION Summer Workouts end this week and official practices for fall sports start on Monday. Winter and spring sports are in a dead period from July 31-August 31. Dates and times for fall sports have been added to the school calendar and will soon be added to jp2sports.com. A reminder that students no longer pay a gate fee to attend regular season home games - that is now included in annual student fees. |
We love being able to live stream many of our athletic events but it takes student and parent volunteers to do so! Students or parents who are interested in helping live stream are asked to email Mr. Doug to let him know. Volunteers will receive service-to-school hours. |

| | NEW ATHLETIC TRAINER Please help us welcome Anthony Pereira as our new athletic trainer! Anthony is originally from the Raleigh area where he grew up with his parents and two brothers. Soccer has always been his favorite sport - he was a goalkeeper and also played football as a kicker. He is an ECU graduate who decided to stay in Greenville with his fiancé, Cierra, and his dog, Pluto. His favorite hobbies include working on cars, going to the beach, and spending time with his friends and family. He's very excited to meet everyone and looks forward to cheering on the Saints! |

In order to be deemed eligible to play a sport at an NCAA DI or DII school, student-athletes MUST complete the NCAA eligibility process. To do so, go to the NCAA Eligibility Center to complete a profile. Make sure that you select the correct John Paul II Catholic High School (school code 341647). Once the profile is complete, email Ms. Blanton so she can confirm you are listed under our school. She will upload transcripts for you once you are on the list. The process runs much smoother if you have all of this completed prior to accepting a verbal offer. Please ask Dr. Parker or Ms. Blanton if you have any questions. |
| | RankOne is the system our athletic training partners at Youngs Physical Therapy & Sports Performance use to track student-athlete eligibility. Students participating in athletics need to have completed the following prior to participating in official practices which start on Monday, July 31: - an updated physical (within the last 12 months)
- concussion baseline testing
- forms signed in RankOne by both the student and a parent/guardian (this can be done with a desktop or a mobile device using the Apple or Android app)
