HOLY WEEK IS HERE

During this sacred week, we pray and reflect on the profound journey of Jesus’ suffering, sacrifice, and victory over death. It starts on Palm Sunday, a day that commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Holy Thursday celebrates the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist while Good Friday reflects on Jesus’ death by crucifixion. Throughout this week, we reflect on the emotional intensity of Jesus' Passion, contemplate His boundless love and mercy, and anticipate the joyous hope of His Resurrection. An intentional Holy Week can serve as a spiritual pilgrimage that deepens our faith.

CHRISM MASS

This year's Chrism Mass is on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral in Raleigh. Members of our senior class will be in attendance to help carry the holy oils and sacred chrism which will be used across the diocese throughout the year for sacraments such as baptism, confirmation, and anointing of the sick.

During the Chrism Mass, diocesan priests renew their priestly vows together with their fellow priests and other representatives from the 96 parishes, campus ministries, and mission churches in the Diocese of Raleigh. Witness a powerful moment of unity: our priests renewing their vows, a spectacle of faith and dedication.

Students will participate in Stations of the Cross on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. Each of the fourteen Stations of the Cross is an invitation to contemplate and experience a pivotal moment from Jesus’ sentencing to his death to his burial. Stations of the Cross is a powerful way to step into some of the most significant moments in human history and encounter Jesus.

RE-ENROLLMENT FOR THE 2024-2025 SCHOOL ENDS MARCH 31ST! Be sure to re-enroll (contract signed and fee paid) by March 31 to save $100 on the annual student fee. Make sure you do not have an outstanding balance on your student's current tuition account. Parents are not able to re-enroll their student(s) for the 2024-2025 school year if there is an outstanding balance on the current tuition account.

Since the initial order of #MorganStrong shirts went so quickly, we are taking orders for a second round of shirts now through March 25 (shirts will be available around April 8th). Shirts are $15 each and available in sizes S-XXL.

PLACE AN ORDER

Freshmen Class SGA is sponsoring a car wash on Saturday, April 13 from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. with all proceeds benefitting Michael Morgan's fight against cancer.

The canned food drive for 86 Hunger ends on Wednesday! Each week 86 Hunger supports 172 Pitt County students by providing food for their family. Bring in 5 cans for one Corporal Works of Mercy. If the student body collects a total of 200 cans, we will have a dress-down day.

Mudville overfloweth! More than 125 bowls are now being completed for the "Our Bowls Overfloweth" soup and bowl fundraiser on April 19th (see below or here for details). A donation of 52 bowls that were ready for glazing were given to the school by Margie Agnew. The bowls provided the opportunity for a contest between all pottery students to glaze and design as they wished. The bowls started as a blank canvas...wait until you see the results when they are sold at our fundraiser! Faculty and staff will be placing votes for their two favorite bowls and the winning artists receive a $25 gift card to Mellow Mushroom.

OUR BOWLS OVERFLOWETH

On April 19th from 4:00-7:00 p.m., stop by JPII and pick up one or more of a variety of homemade soups for dinner. Your soup and bowl ticket for this event provides you with a handmade pottery bowl and a 32-ounce container of soup that serves 2 to 4 people. The soups will be frozen for your use anytime. Click here if you are interested in donating soup.

Additional bowls or soups can be purchased. The bowls are created by JPII teachers and students as well as several pottery guilds in Greenville and Pitt County so each one is a work of art. Dinner made easy!

Selection of bowls and soups is on a first-come, first-served basis at pickup.

Join Haven at Blue Creek on Saturday, April 20 for the inaugural 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run, Walk, and Ruck on their stunning grounds in Grimesland. The First Step 5k is organized to support Haven at Blue Creek, a Women's Rehabilitation Center committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment for women overcoming addiction. Join us for post-race refreshments, entertainment including bouncy houses for children, and a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere.

Families can also support Haven at Blue Creek during the month of March at Great Harvest Bread Co. As the "Non-Profit of the Month," Haven will receive a percentage of sales of carrot cake that will be made daily at the bakery.

This year's Junior/Senior Prom is Thursday, April 25 from 8:00-11:00 p.m. at Stokes Family Farm. Tickets are $30 each and are on sale now through April 24th. April 25th is a half day of school; students must attend all of their classes that day if they intend to go to prom.

Pitt Community College is accepting applications for the prestigious SECU Foundation “People Helping People” Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year. This $5,000 scholarship is payable over four consecutive semesters beginning in Fall 2024. The application is available online; the deadline is April 15, 2024. Questions? The PCC Career and College Promise Office is partnering with Pitt Community College's Hispanic Outreach Services to present a Career and College Promise Information Night on March 27th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Goess Student Center's Davenport Multipurpose Room on PCC's campus.

This is a great opportunity for students and their families to learn more about the Career and College Promise program. This hour-long event will provide information about the Career and College Promise program in English and Spanish.

Students interested in dual enrollment must have an unweighted GPA of at least 2.8 to be eligible. PCC will be at JPII on Thursday, April 11th for summer and fall registration. An appointment sign-up will be sent out closer to the date.

DRIVER'S ED

Students who will be 14-and-a-half as of Monday, April 22 and need to take driver's ed are eligible to participate in the class that will be held at the school April 22-May 3 (except those students going on the DC Trip). The class will be held Monday-Friday from 2:45-5:45 p.m. with the exception of April 26 and May 1. There is no class on April 26 and class will be held 12:00 noon-6:00 p.m. on May 1. Students cannot miss any of the days or they will not get credit and do not receive a refund. Cost is $60 payable to JPII. Mrs. Lyles is leading a trip to Disney World in January 2025 to learn the physics of Disney parks. See below and learn more at the interest meeting on Tuesday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.

When: January 16- 19th 2025

Who:The trip is open to all JPII students (40 max)

What: Students will spend three nights and two days in the Walt Disney Park and attend a 2-hour hands-on workshop about the physics of the park.

Travel: via motor coach

Meals: Cost includes vouchers for meals at the park

Lodging: Walt Disney All-Star Sports Resort (4 students/room)

Cost: $1,500 with non-refundable deposit of $250 due by May 1, 2024. Cost includes park tickets, transportation, food, and lodging.

The remaining $1,250 will be charged monthly to your Finalsite Enrollment account during the 2024-2025 school year.

Students interested in cheerleading for the 2024-2025 school year are encouraged to participate in summer workouts scheduled for June 4–6 and June 10, starting at 9 a.m. and ending at noon. Tryouts will be held June 12th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. If you're interested in participating in cheer for the 2024–2025 school year, please email Coach Holley.

The Ulster Project of Greenville is looking for families with teens ages 14-16 to host a northern Irish teen for 3 weeks this summer from June 26th to July 18th. Both teens, visiting and hosting, will have a schedule of fun activities, service projects, day trips, a 3-night trip to Washington D.C., attending church services, time of discoveries, and more. Visiting teens can share a bedroom with the host teen. Most days will be dropping off in the morning and picking up in the evening. Help with drop off and pick up is available. The project is free of charge and provides service hours. Families can express interest via email or by calling Silvia Frizzelle at 252-258-5963.

Applications for the Ronald McDonald House Teen Ambassador Program are due May 1. The Teen Ambassador Program is comprised of a select group of high school students chosen based on academic merit and commitment to volunteering. Ambassadors gain a greater understanding of several aspects of a nonprofit organization and shows them the importance of giving back to the community. Teens commit to a service year from September – May and meet at least once a month at RMHC of Eastern NC.
